Do You Eat Frogs?
Almost 18 months ago I moved my principal place of residence to Switzerland.
Earlier this year I realised it made sense to set up a Swiss company to support my business. This would allow me to serve local clients, and invoice them in the local currency.
My girlfriend, being an accomplished lawyer, kindly asked her team to prepare the necessary company founding documents. She also introduced me to her long-term banking contacts and helped me to set up an account.
All I had to do was to review the documents and complete the areas that had been highlighted.

Every week would come and go. I would find much more exciting things to do than to review and complete my company founding documents.
It was only when a couple of local businessmen wanted to utilise my services that I made the task a priority.
This past week, I went through the legal documents. Thanks to the help of some much more qualified and knowledgeable people, the documents are now complete.
I now need to get them notarised and filed with the local municipality before the Swiss company is officially registered.

Having completed the outstanding task (or at least it is moving towards completion), I feel accomplished. I feel like a weight has been lifted. I feel more relaxed.
I wonder why I didn’t get it done sooner.
I wonder why I sat on it for so long and allowed it to occupy valuable space in my head.
I wonder why it took an urgent need before I finally made space for it on my calendar.
The answer to these questions are somewhat obvious. Reviewing legal contracts is not my strength. I certainly wasn’t looking forward to scrolling through pages of text.
And yet, the task was unavoidable. At some point it needed completing. And, given I am the only founder and sole director, it couldn’t be completed without my involvement
Mark Twain once said that if you have to eat a live frog, do it first thing in the morning. That way, there will be nothing worse you have to do all day.
Motivational speaker Brian Tracy wrote an internationalbestselling book titled ‘Eat That Frog’. In it he outlines 21 strategies to stop procrastinating and increase productivity.

Let’s be honest, we’re not short of things that can distract us. And, the list of possible distractions is only going to increase.
If you’re serious about fulfilling your potential, it’s on you to implement a system that keeps you focused on the getting the important things done.
It’s all on you.
Don’t be like me. Don’t push the important things down the road.
